Information we collect
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our web server automatically records basic technical information when your browser requests a page. This includes your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, your browser type and operating system, and the response status. These server logs are used to keep the site secure (for example to detect abuse or attacks), diagnose errors and understand overall traffic. Logs are kept for a limited period and are then deleted or aggregated.
Information you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address, name (if included) and the contents of your message. We use this only to respond and to improve the site. Please don't send sensitive financial information. See our contact page.
Information we do not collect
This site has no forms. We don't collect payment card numbers, PINs, security codes, bank account details, Social Security numbers, or SecureSpend account logins, and we have no access to any SecureSpend account.
How we use information
- To operate, maintain and secure the website.
- To respond to your messages and correction requests.
- To understand which pages are useful, in aggregate, so we can improve our content.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
Cookies
We do not set advertising cookies. Google Analytics sets first-party analytics cookies as described below. The site works fully if you block them. For details, see our Cookie Policy.
Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google LLC and loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how visitors use the site in aggregate. This includes which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive (for example from a search engine), approximate location at the city or country level, device and browser type, and clicks on outbound links such as links to the official SecureSpend website. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies and receives your IP address to provide the service. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
We have configured it to limit data collection:
- Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, so the data is not used to build advertising profiles or for cross-device tracking.
- We do not send names, email addresses or any card information to Google Analytics.
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.
You can also opt out by blocking cookies in your browser or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (opens in a new tab). Read more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab).
How we share information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law. We may disclose information only:
- to service providers who host, secure and measure the website, such as our hosting provider and Google Analytics, under obligations to protect it;
- if required by law, subpoena or other legal process;
- to protect the rights, safety and security of our visitors, the public or us; or
- as part of a merger or transfer of the website, in which case this policy would continue to apply.
Third-party links
Our guides link to other websites, including the official SecureSpend website and government resources such as the FTC and CFPB. Those links are marked to open in a new tab. When you leave our site, the other website's privacy policy applies, not ours. We are not responsible for their content or practices. Any information you enter on the official SecureSpend website is collected by SecureSpend and its partners, not by us.
Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act gives you rights regarding your personal information, subject to certain exceptions:
- Right to know what categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, our purposes, and the categories of third parties we disclose it to.
- Right to delete personal information we have collected from you.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. We also honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as an opt-out request.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
Categories of personal information (last 12 months)
| Category | Examples | Collected? | Sold or shared? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | IP address, email address (if you email us) | Yes | No |
| Internet or network activity | Pages viewed, referring page, browser and device type (server logs and Google Analytics) | Yes | No. Disclosed to Google Analytics as a service provider |
| Approximate geolocation | City or country, derived from IP address by Google Analytics | Yes | No |
| Financial information | Card numbers, bank details | No | No |
| Sensitive personal information | SSN, precise geolocation, account logins | No | No |
To exercise your rights, email [email protected] with the subject "California privacy request". We will verify your request using the information you provide, which is usually your email address, and respond within the time required by law. You may use an authorized agent, and we may ask for proof of their authorization.
Other U.S. state privacy laws
Residents of other states with consumer privacy laws, such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and others, may have similar rights to access, correct, delete and opt out. Because we don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising or profiling, those opt-outs don't apply in practice. You can still contact us at the address above to exercise any right available to you, and you may appeal a decision by replying to our response.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
This website is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data security
We use HTTPS encryption across the entire site, keep software up to date, and limit what we collect in the first place. No website can guarantee perfect security, but because we collect so little, very little could ever be exposed.
Data retention
We keep server logs only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. Google Analytics keeps user-level and event-level data for 2 months, and after that only aggregated reports are kept. We keep email correspondence only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and maintain reasonable records, then delete it.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because we don't track visitors across websites, our practices are the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. We treat Global Privacy Control signals as a valid opt-out of sale or sharing, and when your browser sends one, Google Analytics is not loaded.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
